These are some ways I've heard people describe their ankle pain. Ankle pain can seriously affect your ability to run, exercise, and participate in activities you love. It can even make everyday tasks like walking and doing chores seem challenging and painful.
Have you sprained your ankles years ago and it never felt the same since?
Do you find excuses to stay off your ankles and avoid extra sports & hobbies?
Do you always rely on an ankle brace for your activities?
If that's happening to you, you're not alone - and we hear this all the time.
In fact, 66% of Ankle Sprains lead to Chronic Problems down the road.
Walking & Running
The most common culprit for ankle pain is leaving sprains & strains untreated. Most often we just walk it off and figure it will go away. Walking and running on untreated ankle injuries can lead to prolonged pain and makes ankle inflammation worse.
Ankle Weakness
Do your ankles flare-up on uneven ground? You might be feeling unstable and shortening your stride. Having ankle instability can lead to a cascade of effects and lead to other muscular pain when walking.
High Impact Movements
Unfortunately, jumping & high-impact movements can cause irritation in our small ankle joints.
These movements can put too much stress on the ankle ligaments. If your ankle is weak or unstable, the ankle gets more stressed from these movements and is unable to absorb the impact properly.
Although surgery and the use of occasional pain medication or anti-inflammatories are very common, it is NOT THE LONG-TERM SOLUTION that you want. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy specialists have helped hundreds of people avoid surgery and stop relying on pain medications.
